I first met artist Christopher James in late 2019, in the high desert of California. After visiting his property and seeing his art all over his land, I asked him if I could return to observe him as he worked. I ended up feeling so inspired by his serious and stalwart relationship with creativity, that I told him I wanted to write and publish an essay on him. He was thrilled. -- In early 2020, Chris came over to read the 1st Draft of the essay, and he liked it so much that he said he wanted it printed exactly as it was, because I had written it with such fire and passion. Although I never publish a 1st Draft of anything, and though I will always feel that Chris's essay could use some editing and polishing, I will never edit it and polish it, because Chris loved it the way it was. -- Chris died in 2021, and while he was on his deathbed, I promised him that there would forever be at least 1 edition of his essay available to the world.
